Introduction
This database includes more than 10,000 motion capture entries from 97 performers, 54 from Japan and 43 from Taiwan.
It features recordings of 12 emotions—joy, sadness, anger, surprise, fear, disgust, contempt, gratitude, guilt, jealousy, shame, pride, and neutral state.
Each emotional category comprises 3 self-prepared personalised scenarios by the performers, at 3 intensity levels: low, middle, and high.
Scenarios are provided in Japanese, English, and Chinese, offering detailed context information that illustrates the cultural nuances behind emotional triggers.
この多様な感情や文化に伴う身体動作データベースには、97人のパフォーマー（日本から54人、台湾から43人）による10,000件を超えるモーションキャプチャデータが含まれています。
12の感情（喜び、悲しみ、怒り、驚き、恐れ、嫌悪、軽蔑、感謝、罪悪感、嫉妬、恥、誇り）とニュートラル状態の感情表現が収録されているのが特徴です。
各感情カテゴリーは、パフォーマーが自ら用意した3つのオリジナルシナリオで構成され、低、中、高の3つの強度レベルで収録されています。
シナリオは日本語、英語、中国語で提供され、感情の誘因となる文化的な背景を詳細に説明する文脈情報が含まれています。

“DIEM” is the Latin word for “the Day”, We express hundreds of emotions every day. We named this database with the hope that it will be useful for many researchers around the world studying human emotions and motion (i.e., E-motion).

DIEM-A represents a significant advancement in emotional body movement databases, offering several unique features that set it apart from existing datasets:
Asian Focus:
DIEM-A is the first database to exclusively feature Asian performers (from Japan and Taiwan) expressing emotions through whole body movements. This provides valuable insights into the cultural nuances of emotional expression in East Asian populations.
Large Sample Size:
With 97 performers, DIEM-A contains a significantly larger pool of Asian participants compared to existing databases.
Diverse Performer Backgrounds:
DIEM-A incorporates professional performers from various acting disciplines, including film, theater, musical play, comedy, traditional Asian performing arts, etc. The age range (18 - 69 years old) and balanced gender ratio (50 female, 47 male) also make its diversity hard to match by other databases.
Novel Emotion Elicitation Method:
DIEM-A’s approach of having performers prepare personalized scenarios for each emotion is innovative and sets it apart from other databases typically adopt a standardized performing script provided by experimenters.
